Penn State jumps out to big lead, hangs on to beat Washington

Of course, picking a Pac-12 team in this bowl season is a risk, and maybe delusional.

With 1:34 remaining in the stanza the Nittany Lions doubled their advantage, as Barkley scored from two yards out to cap an 11-play, 64-yard drive.

Washington had the nation's top run defense during the regular season, allowing 92 yards per game, but Barkley matched that on one run in the second quarter.

11 CFP, allowed Penn State to work the clock to under a minute on the next drive and gave up a season-high 545 total yards.

He finished the game 32-41 passing for 322 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Everyone wants to focus on the Penn State backfield of Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley but Washington's duo is just as good.

With three-fourths of the conference headed to bowl games, there was potential for the Pac-12 to have an impressive showing and prove that despite not having a team qualify for the College Football Playoff, it is still one of the better Power-5 conferences. And Hamilton, PSU's fifth-year wideout, caught five passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

Washington was trailing Penn State 28-14 in the second quarter at the time of this post. Washington quarterback Jake Browning, making his final start as the Huskies' QB, was 18-28 for 175 yards and a touchdown. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Nittany Lions are 2.5-point favorites to beat the Huskies, who opened as a 2-point underdog when the bowl lines were first released. Every other Pac-12 team has ended the season on a loss. Big Ten teams (Purdue, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State) went 4-0 over Pac-12 teams (Arizona, Washington State, USC and Washington).
