Quentin Tarantino planning new Star Trek film with JJ Abrams

Quentin Tarantino has an idea for a Star Trek movie and J.J. Abrams is assembling a writers room Quentin Tarantino and JJ Abrams Team Up for 'Star Trek' Movie

Entertainment publication Deadline Hollywood has reported that cinematic enfant bad Quentin Tarantino has pitched an idea for a new Star Trek film.

Tarantino's next film, about the Manson family murders back in the '60s, is now being prepped at Sony Pictures, but if the Star Trek pitch goes well, Tarantino might be asked to direct the film, with Abrams set to produce. According to a report from Deadline, Tarantino's pitch will be fast-tracked to a writers' room.

Turning A Classic Episode Into A Movie?

On an episode of Nerdist's podcasttwo years ago, Tarantino explained that while he was a fan of Abrams' Star Trek, he wasn't as fond of Star Trek Into Darkness.

It's still early to speculate, but lucky for us, Tarantino has actually discussed his vision for a potential Star Trek movie before.

But clearly, adding Tarantino's cache to the Trek franchise would be a major coup for Paramount. Tarantino noted that many classic Star Trek episodes could be "easily expanded" into a feature film, and he specifically mentioned the Next Generation episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" as one that could work on the big screen. " Now that he's working on a Star Trek film of his own, it's possible he's aiming to adapt the timeless episode, "The City on the Edge of Forever". He remains a producer on the current film series, even while he's entered the Lucasfilm universe with "The Force Awakens" and now "Episode IX".

First, what the hell will a Tarantino-helmed Star Trek movie look like? While Tarantino is known for penning and directing his own movies, he has also directed for established franchises like CSI and ER.
