Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, Louisville quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy victor Lamar Jackson and Stanford running back Bryce Love were named finalists for the 2017 Heisman on Monday night.

The finalists for this year's Heisman Trophy have been announced, featuring a small field with some familiar names for those who follow college football.

Even if Barkley's numbers had stayed up, however, it likely wouldn't have been enough to beat Mayfield, who finished the season season with 4,340 yards passing, 41 touchdowns and just five interceptions while completing 71 percent of his passes.

The others are Glenn Davis and Doc Blanchard of Army from 1944 to 1946, Doak Walker of SMU from 1947 to 1949 and Herschel Walker of Georgia from 1980 to 1982.

Excluding Jackson since he's still in college, eight of the past nine Heisman winners have been selected in the first round of the National Football League draft. San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny was a distant fourth.

"I'm going to enjoy looking at this next week, traveling, going on the road, and the good thing is I will be going with teammates as well and you gotta enjoy it", Mayfield said after Saturday's Big 12 Championship.

Love was second in the nation in rushing (1,973 yards) while scoring 17 touchdowns, doing most of it with a severely injured ankle.

He received the remaining two first-place votes in the survey. The lightning-quick 5-10, 195-pound true junior from Wake Forest, NC, rushed for 1,973 yard and 17 touchdowns this fall, averaging a stellar 8.32 yards per carry.

Mayfield threw for 386 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Sooners to a 31-16 win at Ohio State on September 9. Love helped the Cardinal win the Pac-12 North title.

Here are the 2017 Heisman finalists, with the victor set to be announced December 9 at 8 p.m. ET.
