Met conductor accused of molesting teen report Met conductor accused of molesting teen report

The Met has known about the accusations since the October 2016 police investigation was opened, Peter Gelb, the general manager of the Met, told the New York Times.

In recent decades Levine's storied career has been largely centered on the East Coast-primarily as music director of the Metropolitan Opera, with a more controversial, illness-ridden tenure leading the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

New York's Metropolitan Opera says it will look into allegations that Levine sexually abused a teenager in the mid-1980s. The allegations come with the United States reeling from a firestorm of sexual misconduct claims that have ended a litany of powerful careers and rocked U.S. industries from Hollywood to news to politics.

Mr Levine has denied the allegations, said a spokesman for the Met, which is one of the world's most renowned opera houses. "We need to determine if these chargers are true and, if they are, take appropriation action".

New York's Metropolitan Opera announced Saturday that it was launching an investigation into allegations of assault against its artistic director emeritus, world-famous conductor James Levine. "Ravinia will take any actions that it deems appropriate following the results of these investigations".

The report details a years-long account from a man who was 15 when the alleged abuse began in 1985. At the time, he said, Levine said he wouldn't send him money anymore.

Levine's accuser, now middle-aged, contacted the police department in Lake Forest, Illinois, in October of 2016 to report that he'd had sexual contact with the conductor when he was under age 18. "Now I can", the man has said.

The statute of limitations for a potential sex crime in IL expired nine years before the alleged victim came forward against Levine in 2016, reports the Post.

"The BSO finds this information deeply disturbing and awaits the findings of further investigations on the matter".

Levine did not immediately respond to a HuffPost request for comment through a representative.

He made his debut with the Met in 1971 and served as its music director from 1976 until a year ago, when he stepped down due to health problems.

The Post alleges that there were "hundreds of incidents" by Levine against the teenage victim.
