In its latest suit filed with the US District Court in San Diego, Apple claimed Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 and Snapdragon 820 processors had infringed on at least eight Apple patents.

Qualcomm Inc. filed three patent lawsuits against Apple Inc.in California federal court Wednesday, opening fresh battles in a legal war with allegations that the rival company has violated 16 patents covering technology ranging from camera phones to touchscreen displays. Qualcomm today announced that it is seeking an import ban on select variants of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X - Apple's latest releases.

Meanwhile, among the new cases filed against Apple include one that deals with "depth-based image enhancement" technology for portrait mode which Qualcomm says is a gross violation of its patent. "Qualcomm's paid advertising makes wildly inflated claims about its role in the development of the smartphone, but the facts show that it was Apple that put an easy-to-use computer-phone in the palm of people's hands, not Qualcomm". Things have worsened to such an extent that Apple is said to be planning to ditch Qualcomm modems from all its future products including the iPhones and iPads.

Interestingly, Qualcomm has sought the "exclusion order" only against iPhones that use Intel's modems, not the ones that run Qualcomm chips.

Qualcomm's various claims covered iPhones 5 through X, and also the Apple Watch.

Qualcomm pointed to its filings when asked for comment.

Apple has accused supplier Qualcomm of behaving like a "common patent troll", as the iPhone maker responds to the mobile chip designer with another round of litigation. Apple accuses Qualcomm of overcharging for its intellectual property and of anti-competitive behaviour.

In particular, Qualcomm points to the iPhone X's multitasking interface and its similarities to the interface webOS used to use.

"You can't react that quickly to file lawsuits", he explained.

Qualcomm claims that the new complaints aren't directly related to Apple's legal action.

The research firm estimates that Apple has sold more than 15 million iPhone X devices since the November 3 launch.

A Reuters report from last month had also suggested that Apple would completely ditch Qualcomm's technologies from next year as a result of the ongoing tussles.
